Hannah Bates

A member of the isolated Genome Colony on planet Moab IV. Bates was genetically engineered to be a scientist, and was the colony's expert on their biosphere and maintaining its environment. Bates worked with Commander La Forge to develop a solution to the problem of an approaching stellar core fragment in 2368. After her exposure to people outside the closed society of the colony, Bates was unwilling to remain in the isolated community. She asked for and was granted asylum aboard the Enterprise-D, despite fears from the colony leaders that her absence and the absence of others would damage the carefully designed society.
